Song of the Day: 'My Funny Valentine' by Carly Simon

It should come as no surprise to anyone that the lyricist of the most achingly romantic song of all time -- an epic work about loving someone, flaws and all -- was a gay man who suffered from depression throughout his life. Lorenz Hart ultimately died of pneumonia from exposure after drinking heavily following the death of his mother, and Richard Rodgers's music was ultimately what suffered the most from this sad turn of events.

People often forget (or never knew) that, in the context of the original show, "Valentine" does not refer to the holiday. She's actually singing to/about a man named Valentine.

She'll be at Carnegie Hall on March 3rd. I know you were bummed last time when you missed her. :)
