Garbiñe Muguruza Tops Venus Williams for First Wimbledon

I'm heartbroken for Venus Williams -- she came out on fire and got to double set point before completely going away -- but the beauty of this matchup was always that I would be happy either way it turned out. I think Chris Evert nailed it when she said maybe now Muguruza can play high quality tennis "throughout the year" instead of this spotty stuff she's been producing since winning the 2016 French Open. Sounds good, but in reality it feels like the WTA is now divided into the "consistent" group -- which can get you to No. 1 without a major -- and the big-match players (Garbiñe has only won FOUR tournaments and two of them are majors, and did not reach a single final between winning in Paris and today. Jeļena Ostapenko has won one title -- this year's French Open!) No matter the case, Muguruza is an absolute doll and sweetheart with an incredible game, so here's hoping we see lots more of her for years to come.
