Song of the Day: 'I Am Woman' by Helen Reddy

Well, she was woman and we sure heard her roar. But it seems America still wasn't ready for a female president. There will be millions of essays and books written about how this happened -- the "populist" rise of Trump (to be sure, millions of "disaffected" whites foolishly bought what he was selling, and the celebrity factor cannot be underestimated), the baggage of the Clintons, the value of Sanders -- but if she could lose by just a percentage point in a few key states to a candidate as cartoonishly evil as Trump then it seems my mom was right when she said women are still the most oppressed group in the world. (I know what people meant -- liberals and women included -- when they said that there's "just something about" Hillary they didn't like, and those are the votes that made the difference.) Women got the right to vote 50 years after black men, so perhaps we'll see our first female president in 2058. Until then, let the deportations begin
