Attended the release party for Lizzy Yoder's new EP on Saturday night at the Ace Hotel. Didn't know what to expect -- I don't know a lot about the band she is most closely associated with, Fischerspooner, and there wasn't really anything anyone could do to prepare me for $13 well drinks -- but I went in with an open mind. Lizzy, it turns out, prefers to have interpretive dancers perform rather than lipsync her own music.
That was more than OK with me -- I was in love with the party the second I arrived and the DJ played Bananarama's "Really Saying Something," then without provcation followed up my praise with Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone"(!) -- but I was disappointed when the third track of set ("Stalker") finished and Lizzy vanished forever for a costume change. (You had the crowd eating from your hand, WHAT were you thinking???) I won't let her faux pas dull my experience, though: "Stars" is a stellar track -- what a voice -- and better than anything in the Top 40 now. That's gotta count for something, huh?

Love Lizzy Yoder's voice. Stars is a beautiful track that makes me want to walk along a moon-lit beach at midnight with my girlfriend.
