Hate Crime Suspected in Attack on Gay Journalist -- UPDATE

You may have heard the sickening news that the NYPD is investigating the violent assault of (yet another) gay man, this time journalist Randy Gener. The Associated Press reports that the award-winning 46-year-old was found lying on the ground unconscious with head trauma Jan. 19 at about 3 a.m. Gener has since undergone brain surgery at St. Luke's Hospital, and his family and friends are holding a vigil Sunday night and want the public to help find his attacker. Mr. Gener has a long and painful road ahead of him to recovery, and a fund has been set up to help him with expenses:
Our dear friend, Randy Gener, is currently recovering in the ICU from brain surgery. He was reportedly assaulted on January 18th, shortly before 4am after leaving a party in midtown, and was found in the vicinity of 7th Avenue near 54th/55th Street. He is said to have suffered severe head trauma, from which he is currently recovering in the Neuro ICU. We created this campaign to raise funds for his medical expenses. Any amount would be greatly appreciated.

Police have released this sketch of the attacker. Please share liberally with your New York-area  friends.
