Song of the Day: 'Waiting for a Star to Fall' by Boy Meets Girl

One of my favorite singles from from '88, "Waiting for a Star to Fall" was first demoed by none other than Belinda Carlisle, before being recorded by Boy Meets Girl. Belinda's first stab was so low-energy that I can see why she ended up passing on it, but after hearing the duo's finished version  -- which peaked at No. 5 -- you can't help but feel that Belinda and her team could have turned this into another "Heaven Is a Place on Earth." (Boy Meets Girl also wrote "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," which both became No. 1 hits for Whitney Houston.) Instead, "Runaway Horses" marked the beginning of the end for Belinda's solo career in America.
