Happy Birthday, Diana Ross

The Boss turned 69 today. It's hard to pick a favorite Diana Ross or Supremes song -- there are so many -- but "The Boss," "Someday We'll Be Together," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "I Ain't Been Licked," "Chain Reaction"  and "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" all come to mind. It's kind of been interesting to see someone who was SOOOOO famous become less so with age. Marilyn Monroe died at 36, so using the two of them as a template, I will be curious to see how Madonna is perceived at 69.

Miss Ross still has it! Saw her last Summer at The Mountain Windery (San Jose, CA) and she was effin awesome. And a real band... horns! strings! Not to mention the Bob Mackie costumes! A perfect Summer evening.

I saw her live 28 (!) years ago and was awed by her imperiousness. Loved the part where she said she'd come out into the audience and sing, "But don't touch me." She's a real old-fashioned star who doesn't feel the need to suck up to her fans, mouth off about her political views, or Twitter for approval.

When I was a teenager, the top four divas were Barbra, Bette, Diana, and Cher.

Interesting to see where their standing as top divas rank today...
