Heard this favorite from my childhood at a restaurant over the weekend with Michael. Would love to know what song kept it from going to No. 1 -- it peaked in the No. 2 position in 1972, a rare R&B song to do better on the pop list than the R&B, where is hit No. 5 -- as it's arguably one of the best singles of all time. One of my all- time favorites!
"Alone Again, Naturally", by Gilbert O'Sullivan, was the song that kept it from being Number 1.
Love this tune. I still have my 45. It was on the UA label.
Songs that had a melody, a beginning middle and an end, and told a story. What a concept.
