So great to see Tommy Haas back in action in Australia (some may recall he was part of the inspiration for my starting a blog). The nearly 34-year-old German-born dreamboat defeated American Denis Kudla, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-0, 7-5, to advance to the second round in Melbourne -- his first appearance here since 2010 due to a hip and shoulder injuries -- and has said he hopes to keep playing until his daughter is old enough to see Dad play. Valentina turned 1 in November -- could Tommy possibly pull a Jimbo Connors? Only time will tell. Next up? Rafael Nadal. (Should have plenty of time to rest after that one!)
