Privacy, Please

While we could sure do without a "pro-polygamy" op-ed that cites the 2003 decriminalization of homosexual sex as the basis for why lovers of multiple wives should be left alone -- idiots like Justice Scalia are too stupid to understand the difference between consenting adults, and unconsenting barnyard animals and (even) consenting biologically related adults -- the lawyer for the "Sister Wives" gang, who are challenging the polygamy law in Utah after they came under investigation, does have a point. Kody Brown and his four wives (only one is legal) are not asking for the state to recognize their other marriages. They are simply asking to be left alone:

While widely disliked, if not despised, polygamy is just one form among the many types of plural relationships in our society. It is widely accepted that a person can have multiple partners and have children with such partners. But the minute that person expresses a spiritual commitment and “cohabits” with those partners, it is considered a crime.

We should fight for privacy as an inclusive concept, benefiting everyone in the same way. Regardless of whether it is a gay or plural relationship, the struggle and the issue remains the same: the right to live your life according to your own values and faith.

UPDATE: Ha! That didn't take long:
