Kenneth in the (718)

At my friends Chris and Brian's wedding in Brooklyn, my first gay marriage. (Posting via my phone, so more TK.)

UPDATE: The ceremony and reception were both absolutely beautiful. (I know we queens are famous for our disposable income, but was that Kathy Griffin officiating?) Missed a lot of the toasts (we were seated in Houston and the acoustics weren't so good over there), but it was obviously very sweet and heartfelt -- getting shushed with Ben by an employee of the joint notwithstanding (seriously!). Drag diva Jackie Dupree got the crowd going with her spirited live performance of "Killing Me Softly" and "Million Dollar Bill" for groom Brian. And whoever they got to DJ obviously robbed my CD collection before getting hired on for the night. "Like a Prayer," "Runaround Sue," "Mickey" and "That's Not My Name" were highlights.

The boys are headed to Thailand for their honeymoon. Here's wishing them a long and happy life together -- I adore them both!

Hey Kenneth:

I'm a little confused: you wrote that the wedding was in Brooklyn while the NYT article stated in Conn. Since NY doesn't have marriage equality, only recognition of same-sex marriage, what's the scoop?

For NYers, options and recognition is better than most places. While living in Brooklyn, my BF and now hubby and I were married/honeymooned in Cape Cod (had a fab time). Having NY recognize our marriage was very helpful regarding our health insurance, car ownership and one hospital visit.

Now living in North Carolina, without any recognition of our marriage, we have to fall back on wills, powers of attorney, and lots of grit.

Anyway, you might want to cover how this happy couple did want they did so that other gay/lesbian NY couples can follow their hearts.

Nice photos; looks like a fun time. Perhaps let us know too whether their families were there.

Thanks.

Mike: Sorry, I get a little confused because I write one thing on Facebook and then think I've put it on my blog, too.

They got married in Connecticut on Saturday morning to "make it legal." Then they had a second ceremony and wedding reception in Brooklyn on Saturday night, which is what they invited their friends to. Both of their families -- ALL OF THEM! -- were in attendance. There were 10 groomspeople on each side and more than 200 guests. It was quite the affair!
