Bridging the Gap

The Santa Barbara Film Festival ended this weekend with Jeff Bridges Day, a fitting tribute to one of America's most reliable and hitherto underrated actors. From the first time I laid eyes on him in "The Last Picture Show" to his current Oscar-nominated performance in "Crazy Heart" -- which I really enjoyed, despite the recent backlash against it for being enjoyed -- I've always had a thing for Jeff. In high school, "Jagged Edge" was playing at the movie theater I worked at and I'd frequently "go missing" for extended periods of time so I could stare at him on the big screen every night.

I'm not sure if Jeff was the best actor in a leading role this year or not (I don't even know who the other nominees are), but he was awfully good as Bad Blake. So whether he deserves it now or deserves for a lifetime of greatness, I won't be happy unless Mr. Bridges goes home with the little gold man this year. Hell, that beard in "Against All Odds" alone should have won him an Oscar (swoon)!

Jeffery, me too! Wow, Kenneth, I'd forgotten how hot Bridges was in Against All Odds...
