As the nation's capital prepares to usher in marriage equality, I must say I completely do not agree with Councilman David Cantania's call for forgiveness against the two members of the council who are against the historic vote -- especially Marion Barry, one of the most disgraceful people in the history of politics. If Cantania -- as a white, openly gay Republican -- could get elected 12 years ago, surely the District of Columbia can do better than the sorry of excuse of a man Barry is.
NBC reports:
An enthusiastic crowd filled the Shaw Center in Northwest Washington on Monday night -- the eve of the historic gay marriage equality vote. The D.C. Council already passed the first of two required votes earlier this month.
Councilmen Harry Thomas and David Catania drew thunderous applause as they addressed the crowd. Catania urged supporters not to hold the two dissenting votes against Councilman Marion Barry, Ward 8, and Councilwoman Yvette Alexander, Ward 7.
"I want to thank the two who are not with us," he said. "Not because they are not with us now. But because they have been but because they have been with us so often on so many other issues."

Catania's no longer a Republican, he's an independent now.
