Center Square

There must have been something magic in the air, because yesterday I got not one, but two Paul Lynde references in one day? On last night's "Colbert Report," Stephen reported on the latest twist in the fight over school curriculum in Texas, where the debate switched from religion and biology to how much faith belongs in American history classrooms. Colbert happily noted that one of the board of education's new advisers, the Rev. Peter Marshall, preaches "that Watergate, the Vietnam War and Hurricane Katrina were God's judgments on the nation's sexual immorality." Colbert then gleefully noted: "Finally someone has the guts to say it. The fall of Saigon was Paul Lynde's fault."
Just a few hours earlier, I received a press release about a new show opening later this month in Los Angeles called "Oh My Goodness ... it's Paul Lynde!" Michael Airington stars as the legendary comedian in a show that features some of Lynde's own words, performance pieces and comedic monologues. It's based in part on Lynde's life and 1976 touring show and is directed by John Hall. "Oh My Goodness ... it's Paul Lynde" makes its debut at The Comedy Store beginning July 22, and features voiceovers by the master of the "Hollywood Squares" himself, Peter Marshall (see below). Sounds like a hoot! For ticket information, click HERE.
