The Bald Truth

The Times caught up with Pete Sampras in T.O. today to rub it in his face that his Most Grand Slam Titles record isn't going to last too much longer and boy is he as boring as ever. To think I used to think he was as cute as he was gifted. But as he lost his looks he also lost his humility and with it, the respect and admiration of many. I've seen a hint of this behavior in my beloved Federer (the excuses that were never made before, the lack of compliments for his opponents). Let's hope it was just a hiccup and not a hint of things to come ...

They interviewed him by phone on ESPN as well. He was his typical dead fish self. He also basically said that his era was more competitive. Also noncommittal about coming next weekend if Roger might be ready to break his record.

That kitchen is hideous.

I'm not sure I understand the criticism. He is, or was, an incredible athlete. He is also a boring public personality with questionable taste in kitchens. I hear Picasso was a lousy husband and distant father when he wasn't a brilliant painter. So what?

Greek men are beautiful when they are young, but they generally don't age well.

I can't see that he's lost that much of his looks. I'd like to to be built like him. What do we want, a tennis answer to Michael Jackson? He can be as bland as he wants.

I've seen that in Federer for a few years now, that's why I'm so over watching him. I think he's as boring as he is good. So watching him win is never satisfying to me. I can't wait for the Federer era to be over.
