Have any of you tried Walkscore.com, this fun site that rates cities, neighborhoods, addresses, etc., for walkability? You just type in your address and it judges your location for proximity to a variety of things, like restaurants, grocery stores, coffee shop and movie theaters. Not surprisingly, mine got a 100 percent (these Manhattan rents gotta be worth something, right?!). My brother Terence told me about the site and says he got a 92 out of 100 living in downtown Frederick, Md., aka "walkers' paradise." I'd be curious to hear how people in other places around the country rate. Try it out and leave me a comment ...

I tried this just recently. I think I got a 98 (I *am* way west) out of 100, but my mom in Evanston, IL, got a 99.
Manayunk section of Philadelphia score 82.
love the post! i tried mine out.. in midtown Atlanta, GA.. got 80%. not bad considering i sold my car 5 years ago becuase i can walk to work (4 blocks)! it's funny... the bookstore & the bar that came up are the "gay" one's. :)

I live in Kansas City, MO and get a 51/100 - "Somewhat Walkable". Ah well...
74 here in Columbus, Ohio (Clintonville neighborhood)
Ken, I live in Sahuarita, AZ (south of Tucson), and scored a 2 out of 100! The web site made the comment that I was car dependent. Quite the true statement.
hmm. my neighbourhood got 60/100. but it seems to have left out many of the best things in my neighbourhood. this thing seems weak. it missed two nearby large grocery stores, a couple nice restaurants, the nearby library... these things shouldn't be skipped!
I go a mortifying 62 (we live across the street from a big park, so a lot of the amenities they rate are out of their range. Pussies.)
My current location in downtown St Louis got 100. At the end of May, I'm moving to San Diego (East Village) and it scored a 92. So both are very walkable...although the site doesn't take into account that there are several months each year you don't WANT to walk around St Louis it's either too hot or too cold. :-)
Eastern Market neighborhood of Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. 100%
100. Dupont Circle in DC. Who knew? ;^)
(Actually I did this long ago, so, me!)
74 in Las Vegas. Of course, that number should be adjusted for our summers, when it isn't really safe to walk more than a block from your home in the noon sun.
Ashamed to say that in Tinley Park IL....
Walk Score: 54 out of 100 — Somewhat Walkable
