Take a Bow

As you've probably heard, Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night here in Manhattan, at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. (I guess going to Cleveland is something only the memorabilia does.) Apparently VH1 Classic aired the event live, but I was at Madison Square Garden for the tennis, so I haven't seen it yet. Truth be told, looking at these pictures almost makes me not want to watch it, a picture being worth a thousand words and all. Madonna looks so sweet and so happy -- like her guard was finally down after 25 years of clawing her way to the top -- and making sure she remained there. The images of her where she is obviously watching old footage or photos of herself looking shy, maybe a little embarrassed, with a girlish gleam in her eye, really warm my heart. I obviously don't know the woman, but as a longtime fan I really hope she enjoyed every minute of this hard-earned moment, that she was finally able to stop being defensive about "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin" and just take a deep breath and say, "I did it." She truly is the biggest music star of her generation, and it seems increasingly unlikely that there will ever be another one anywhere close to her iconic stature. Elvis, the Beatles and now Madonna -- that's it. Congratulations, Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone. You deserve it.

It would have been cooler if Madonna went to Cleveland for it, though. A place as American as.......rock n roll.

I *love* the line about only the memorabilia goes to Cleveland. The speech she gave was flawless and was exactly as you imagined—so heartfelt, pure Michigan ACK-sent. Justin claimed she asked him to "drop 'em" and she corrected "I said, 'Pull down your PAnts.'" She left out a few interesting names (Jellybean, Steve Bray, Shep Pettibone spring to mind), but mentioned some really deserving ones (Dan, Chris Flynn, Liz). Some have gone on about her look being weird...I wasn't into the hair but overall, not bad for 49.5. I hope she has another 47 Top 40 hits in her somewhere.

First off, I am a HUGE Madonna fan. I think she looks great and deserves the honor...but what would Nina Garcia say about the dress? I'm not luvin' it.

She didn't even perform at the ceremony, she had other singers perform her songs. That's how lame of a live performer she is, she needs her tapes to lipsynch to. Donna Summer was nominated the same year and has 100 times Madonna's talent, but of course didn't get inducted. Since she's a black disco singer, unlike Madonna, a white disco singer.
