Well, I almost hate to admit it. But if I'd had a choice between seeing Roger Federer vs. Pete Sampras or Steffi Graf vs. Martina Navratilova this year, I'd have to say it would have been the women all the way. Steffi has long been my fave (post-Tracy Austin, of course). My friend Eric and I were even lucky enough to be at Madison Square Garden back in November '99 when they had a big retirement ceremony for the German legend (and I may have shed a tear or two). This weekend Stef plays Martina in Tokyo in what's been billed as the Dream Match 2008, Has it really been 19 years since they last played at the Garden, when Stef won their only best-of-five-sets match in the Virginia Slims Championships, 6-4, 7-5, 2-6, 6-2? How fab would it be to see these two battle it out at this legendary venue one more time? (Promoters, are you reading?)
