Wilde About the Girl

While there's no disputing Madonna's No. 1 gay icon status among '80s female singers, the second position is open for much debate. Kylie? Belinda? Samantha? Taylor? Stacey Q? Martika? I'd put Kim Wilde way up there on my list. Although Americans only ever seemed to care about "Kids in America" and her No. 1 cover of "You Just Keep Me Hangin' On," she's actually released 10 great pop albums over the years to little appreciation. Casual friends would be wise to start with "The Singles Collection 1981-1993," which includes her two biggies plus a few near-hits -- including "You Came," which just missed the Top 40 peaking at 41 back in 1988 -- and a bunch songs that sure sound like hits to me.

I'm also loving Kim Wilde for some time now. I'm a fashion designer and I just HAD to use You Keep Me Hangin'On for a show I had a couple of weeks ago. I wish she planned a strong comeback.

I have loved Kim for years -- own everything she's released. Believe it or not, she is the most successful British female singer of the 1980s.
