Abuse Me, Please! An Atlanta man has come forward to say that Mark Foley also sent him sexually charged e-mails after he met him as a page back in 1996-97. Now I'm not trying to blame the victim here by any means -- and I certainly think Foley is solely responsible for his actions in this case and any others involving minors, but am I the only person who doesn't go out of my way to be around people who "creep me out"? Read this: "(The former page) says he and a friend made sure nothing sexual happened when they visited Foley's house in the summer of 1999. But that was almost two years after he says Foley started sending sexually explicit e-mails to him." HUH??? (News11)
Blond Bombshell: Kim Basinger is difficult? Stop the presses! (Ireland Online)
Separate and Not Equal: A three-judge panel of the California court of appeal ruled Thursday that the state may continue to bar same-sex couples from marriage. Several gay advocacy groups working on the case immediately vowed to appeal the 2-1 decision to the state's Supreme Court. If these types of rulings are still happening in California, it's really starting to make me wonder if I will live to see equality for all people. At least Brad Pitt can avoid marrying that lovely nutjob of his. (Advocate)
Beauty Queen Murder Dropout: Not only did John Mark Karr not bother to really murder JonBenet Ramsey, now he can't even get charged witpossessingng all that kiddie porn we heard a thing for. A judge dismissed child pornography charges against him, saying prosecutors didn't have enough evidence to take the case to trial. This guy can't do anything right. (AP)
The Starbucks Doesn't Stop Here: Starbucks Corp. Thursday raised its forecast for how big it plans to get, upping it by a third to 40,000 stores, and said it was nowhere close to exhausting opportunities in North America, even as more possibilities appear internationally. Well, let's see: I live on 18th and 8th. There's a Starbucks at 16th and 8th, 19th and 8th and 22nd and 8th. I can hardly wait for the one on 17th and 8th to open, I'm so tired of walking out of my way for an iced coffee. (Reuters)
Cher and Cher Alike: While the paintings may have gone to art collectors, the Bob Mackie-designed gowns worn by Cher during a 1974 television performance of "Dark Lady" and to the 1998 Academy Awards definitely went to a big queen fan."I had high hopes for the Academy Awards gown, but I never thought I'd have it in my possession," said Scott Clark, 48, a jewelry manufacturer who said he has followed Cher's career for almost four decades. Clark paid $19,200 for the beaded, ivory Academy Awards gown and $10,800 for the "Dark Lady" dress. Clark also bought, for $10,800 as well, a faux-leopard-print jumpsuit worn by Cher when she played the wisecracking character Laverne on her TV show, along with several other outfits. He plans to display them in a room of his Sonoma, California, home devoted to items owned by Cher. God help bless him. The auction raised over $3.5 million with a percentage going to several charities. (Bloomberg)
Oh Kenneth - you hardly have ANY Starbucks there compared to Seattle. I don't know how you survive.
:-)
Honestly, just around the building where I work there are not only multiple Starbucks, but also Seattle's Best Coffee (SBC) and Tully's, plus 6 or 7 independant coffee houses and coffee carts. Still nothing beats a coffee and dessert at Dean and Deluca in NYC!
People visit their creepy bosses all the time. Foley was a powerful congressman who could advance their careers. It's sad but true: men and women, young and old, hold their noses and play nice with lots of strange folks all the time.
