Here is the latest regarding the alleged Jussie Smollett attack, garnered from the just-released initial police report:
*He didn't have a broken rib and was not hospitalized (he voluntarily took himself to the hospital to get checked)
*The police report calls the injuries "minor."
We've since learned:
*He and his manager,who says he was on the phone during the attack and heard the "MAGA" comments, have refused to turn their phones over to police.
*However, they have both said they were voluntarily providing phone records.
*There are 55 seconds unaccounted for on video surveillance police have found; no video of an assault exists
*When Smollet reappears on video, he has a roped around his neck and is holding his Subway sandwich.
At least the sandwich was unharmed ...
I guess the most unbelievable part to me is that given that Smollett says the attackers recognized him as being on "Empire," we have to believe that they either happened upon this person in a city of 2.7 million people -- while holding a container of an known chemical and a clothesline type of rope -- or that they were stalking him at 2 a.m. on the coldest night of the year when he just happened to arrive home on a much-delayed flight from NYC and happened to go out in the wee hours for food.
I found one (unreliable) source online saying subpoenas have been issued for Smollett's and his manager's phone records but I have not been able to confirm that.
According to the initial police report, the "white rope" listed in the property inventory isn't mentioned as being used as a weapon. Smollett also didn't mention the MAGA comment in his first report. We already knew this, but it still strikes me as odd that a noted "resister" wouldn't remember that salient detail when first questioned. When I thought he'd been badly beaten I figured he was so out of it -- reportedly in the hospital with broken ribs -- that it had slipped his mind. But now that we know he wasn't seriously hurt, the omission seems much more significant.

And does it strike anyone as odd that he was attacked yet he stayed on the phone and it never got knocked to the ground?
My guess is they can either verify it was a hoax from this, or it will officially leave it ambiguous.
