Nixon: San Francisco 'Is the Most Faggy Goddamn Thing You Could Ever Imagine'

With thanks to my brother Terence, who came across this incredible tape of President Nixon discussing the "Judging Books by Covers" episode of "All in the Family" -- where Archie finds out his longtime buddy and former NFL player is gay -- San Francisco and "gay liberation" with chief of state H.R. Haldeman and domestic affairs assistant John Ehrlichman.

Given the things Nixon says -- and his seeming obsession with the topic -- it's hard for me to believe he isn't suppressing homosexual impulses -- and I'm not the first to bring this up.

One listen to this and you'll understand why having a man in the White House like President Obama will have such a lasting effect on LGBT children. This is the way so many of us grew up thinking the world was looking at us -- and we were right.

Some crazy shit:

Nixon thinks Gloria is "goofy-looking" (there's not a woman he likes!), that Meathead "goes both ways" and that the show always sets out to make Archie look bad(!).

He describes a character on the show as "obviously queer -- wears an ascot and uses the nice language"(!).

Describing Archie's former linebacker friend who turns out to be gay, Nixon gushes: "God, he's handsome, virile, strong and this and that."

Referring to little boys while discussing why homosexual scout leaders need to be weeded out: "There's a little tendency among them all."

Nixon repeatedly likens being gay to being a drug addict or prostitute -- "We all know people who go to whores!" -- and says he has no problem with people being gay -- "but we don't have to glorify it on television." (And we're still hearing that today from national leaders and judges.)

Nixon: "You know what happened to the Greeks. Homosexuality destroyed them. Sure, Aristotle was a homo, we all know that. So was Socrates."

Ehrlichman: "But he never had the influence television had."

Nixon: [San Francisco] is the most faggy goddamn thing you could ever imagine. I don't even want to shake hands with anybody from San Francisco."

Nixon thinks gays have to have jobs -- as hair dressers and designers -- but then laments: "You know one of the reasons that fashions have made women look so terrible is because the goddamned designers hate women. That's a fact."

Have a listen and tell me your favorite moment.
