Why Don't You Marry It?

The reviews of "Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays" have been universally positive, so I'm bummed that I wasn't able to make it to the blogger night. (Such a pity, the look in Mark Consuelos' eyes tells me he's just dying to gay-marry me.) Anyone seen it yet? Would love to hear what you think -- am proud to have the play be a KIT212 sponsor!

SOC is a wonderful production. Six actors, each riveting to watch. Of course, Harriet Harris steals the entire show. Her two featured monologues were written by Paul Rudnick, and are OMG-I-Can't-Breathe hysterical. To say she chews the scenery is an understatement.

Richard Thomas is a knockout, saddled with more of the deep material. Polly Draper and Beth Leavel are fantastic. You can't take your eyes of Craig Bierko, who obviously gives 150% to every line.

And yes, you want to rip Mark Consuelos away from Ripa. He's marvelous, too.

Saw it a couple weeks ago (unfortunately Mark Consuelos as out for that performance) na dit was very entertaining. The best skit was Joe Keenan's "This Marriage Is Saved" about a disgraced evangelist and his wife making a radio appearance. Doug Wright's "On Facebook" is equally hilarious and utilizes the entire cast. Moisés Kaufman's "London Mosquitos" was very touching. The only thing that could have been improved is the weak final skit (by José Rivera) that feels like a replay of the first piece of the evening.

By the way, I hadn't even heard of this play until I saw the ad on your site. So...in this case, an ad actually worked!
