Music Box: The Go-Betweens

Unbeknownst to them, the Go-Betweens spent the bulk of the '80s battling it out with Divinyls and INXS for the "best Aussie band" space in my heart (sorry, Hoodoo Gurus). A winner was never declared -- the first Divinyls album and the song "Don't Change" by INXS make it impossible to decide -- but an equally strong case could surely be made for the Brisbane New Wavers' "Streets of Your Town" and the album on which it appears, "16 Lovers Lane," which was nothing short of a masterpiece (is it any wonder they called it quits the following year -- how do you top that?).

Kenneth,
Once again your Music Box strikes a chord with my magical music moments memory bank. 16 Lovers Lane was an album that I'd play in-store at a Sound Warehouse I managed.
There were many customers that would light up as it played and want to know who it was, they
would usually buy it. They were
the true taste makers. A classic that has stood the test of time !

It's Von again, I have to add to your Aussi mix the Heavenly pop
of the Eurogliders.

Kenneth, interesting trivia - they just opened a bridge in Brisbane, Australia called "The Go-Between Bridge". Named after a competition - very clever name not only because the bridge goes between two sides of the river, but also honours Brisbane's biggest musical export!
