Remains of the Day (02/03)

How's this for great news?

While the chances of a conviction are nil, I think it's important for Trump's supporters to have to hear from people like this, as well as police officers who were beaten and maimed

GOP campaigners release billboards calling for Cruz, Hawley resignation

Nothing is routine if Dems are in power

It seems the Biden administration isn't white -- or yellow -- with rage

Remains of the Day (02/02)

Mayor Pete makes LGBTQ+ history!

"That the voice of the Biden administration on the world stage, whose words will be analyzed in foreign capitals and provide direction for U.S. diplomats overseas, will be a gay man is unremarkable, which is itself a remarkable thing. It also sends a potent message to foreign LGBTQ activists, especially those fighting in countries where same-sex relationships are still criminalized.”

John Aravosis: This is why we must must get rid of the electoral college. Republicans are stealing the presidency and forcing unpopular policies down the throats of the majority of Americans.

White House open to narrowing who qualifies for stimulus checks but keeping payments at $1,400 per person

Conspiracy theories and disinformation must be treated as "the urgent threats they are" or "the potential for violent unrest and civic dysfunction will only grow.”

Trump doubles down on false election claim in impeachment response

'Black Mirror' is starting to look subtle

This is classic George Zimmerman logic: The Kremlin poisons Navalny and leaves him nearly dead, then penalizes him for not checking in with his parole officer while he's unconscious

When people say 'cancel cancel culture,' what they're really saying is 'stop holding people accountable'

In the words of the great philosopher Sarah Palin: 'All of them, Katie'

Indeed. And have any of you tried French Toast Crunch???

Hal Holbrook, five-time Emmy winner, dead at 95

A friend writes:
I'm so glad this obit mentions "That Certain Summer," a remarkably good TV movie in which Holbrook, who is divorced, has to break the news to his teenage son that he is gay. It aired, somewhat incredibly, in 1972. Holbook's boyfriend is played by a very young, very handsome Martin Sheen.

And how fun are these "Search Party" dolls? When people ask if I recommend the show, now in its fourth season, I never know what to say. The first season is an absolute must-watch. Since then, it has jumped the shark two or three times, yet the characters are so much fun I'm willing to look the other way even though I know others may not be so forgiving.

Remains of the Day (01/29)

Do these people never tire of being caricatures of themselves?

They are part of the nearly 100 billboard ads purchased by the group.

Bravo to Biden, the most pro-LGBTQ president ever. How sad that militant trans activists are so determined to be miserable that they have decided to move the goalpost from trans inclusion to "Well, the military is wrong to begin with, so including us isn't really progress"

Santiago Meyer: Why does Katie Hill have to resign because of her sex life but Marjorie Taylor Greene can ask for her colleague to be murdered and stay?

Remains of the Day (01/28)

Michael Musto: So powerful in 'Sounder,' so brilliant as Miss Jane Pittman, so astounding in Broadway’s 'Trip To Bountiful' revival. (Her explosive performance of a woman emotionally retracing her roots nabbed one of the most deserved Tonys of all time.) RIP, Cicely Tyson.

Martina Navratilova: That’s funny! And Chris got to the net first, what is up with that?!?:)

Rep. Jimmy Gomez will introduce a resolution to expel Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress. Read HERE.

I'm sure you don't need to hear it from me, but everyone knows Trump incited an insurrection -- as well as schemed to use the Justice Department to overturn the election -- yet three weeks later Republicans are already back to acting as if nothing happened. It's like the 'Access Hollywood' tape with casualties -- and can only be compared with Jim Jones or Charles Manson.

Senate Democrats and White House fast track Covid relief bill, frustrating Republicans (who are pretending they wanted to work together)

Sergio Arellano, a Pima County small business owner who lost to Ward by 42 votes, requested a recount of all state party races on Monday. More than two days later, he said, Arizona state party leaders -- who report to Ward -- have not yet scheduled the audit.

And somehow people still continue to 'both sides' the political parties in the U.S.

Many Americans losing their insurance now have never used the marketplace or Medicaid -- and may need advertising to tell them more about the opportunity

This is 100% true, but what I don't get is why leaders of the GOP remain loyal. Yes, Trump has a unique ability to increase turnout. But as we have learned, it's not enough voters to win elections -- in fact, for every person he excites he is turning off one or two more. Why would a party remain loyal to a man who has cost it the House, Senate and the presidency?

Remains of the Day (01/27)

Hillary Clinton: This woman should be on a watch list. Not in Congress.

Advocacy groups push for Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation over report that she spread falsehoods about school shootings

Michael Musto: Someone tell Trump! He keeps looking for election fraud!

Homeland Security issued a warning Wednesday to alert the public about a growing risk of attacks by “ideologically-motivated violent extremists” agitated about President Biden’s inauguration and “perceived grievances fueled by false narratives.”

Remains of the Day (01/22)

Yet another impeachable offense: Trying to find another avenue to push his baseless election claims, Donald Trump considered installing a loyalist, and had the men make their cases to him.

Michael Musto: Trump's impeachment lawyer, Butch Bowers, has the same name as a psychotic and abusive character from Stephen King's "It". Fun!

Senate confirms Lloyd Austin to be first black defense secretary

A Michigan woman asked county officials to denounce the Proud Boys. One commissioner flashed a rifle instead.

These lunatics won't be happy until they finish off the job

Senate Democrats file ethics complaint against Cruz, Hawley after Capitol riot

I know it's not the NYT's fault that the Biden administration doesn't commit impeachable offenses every other minute, but just look at this headline.

Madison Cawthorn's campaign ads suggested he was on his way to the Naval Academy before the car accident that left him paralyzed (he'd actually already been rejected by the Academy before his accident). And now we learn Cawthorn repeatedly lied about “training” for the Paralympics

Hank Aaron, home run king who defied racism, dies at 86

I don’t feel as strongly about, well,  anything as Ginia Bellafante does about some cranky septuagenarian -- whose biggest crime seems to be having a following as blindly devoted as Robin Williams did, which never seemed to warrant NYT opinion pieces

What a shame to read that the original Standard Hotel in WeHo closed today. Although my dream was always to live in the (212), I left a piece of my heart in the (213)/(310)/(323) after living there in my 20s -- and the Standard West Hollywood became my go-to home away from home whenever I visited the West Coast and pretended to be bicoastal. This one truly hurts.

Remains of the Day (01/21)

We're all living for the Bernie memes, but this photo caption is my favorite!

It's a new day in America

In his first foreign policy move, the president fired Michael Pack, the head of the US Agency for Global Media.

A day after trolling Florida man she put Ted Cruz in his place, too!

Sounds about right

Can you imagine?

Amanda Gorman’s poetic answer to pandemic grief: ‘Do not ignore the pain’

Cori Bush: I don’t want to unite with those responsible for the insurrection at our nation’s Capitol. I want us to unite in holding them accountable.

Sounds delicious!
