Song of the Day: 'She's Back in Town' by Rodney Crowell

If you're anything like me, you're missing live music and feeling bad for people whose livelihood has been affected by not being able to perform. With that in mind, might I suggest purchasing "Songs From Quarantine," a new benefit album featuring the likes of Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash and a dozen other artists. (Rosanne and hubby John Leventhal re-recorded her brilliant "Western Wall" with the Milk Carton Kids.) Proceeds go to the Music Health Alliance, the industry's resource for healthcare. Visit Bandcamp to buy HERE.

You'll never go wrong when Rodney Crowell works with Rosanne Cash, whether they're married or long since divorced

Rosanne Cash Lends Her Ex a Hand

Love this video of Rosanne Cash singing "Sister, Oh Sister," a song from her ex-husband, country crooner Rodney Crowell, and poet/author Mary Karr's upcoming "collaborative" LP called "Kin."

The clip -- which because of privacy setting you have to click HERE to watch -- is beautifully directed by Devereux Milburn and has so many things going on -- from Rose's first husband playing guitar on one side while current hubby, John Leventhal, plays on the other (I'm fascinated by people who remain close to their exes), to a backup appearance by Chely Wright, the first time I've actually ever heard something come out of her mouth that wasn't about her sexuality. "Kin" is slated for release in March 2012, and also features collaborations with Norah Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Lucinda Williams, Vince Gill, EmmyLou Harris and Leeann Womack. (How's that for a lineup?)

UPDATE:

Here's a sweet fan-made video that seems to have the artists' approval.

Music Box: Rodney Crowell & Rosanne Cash

The video for the 1988 No. 1 smash "It's Such a Small World" by then-lovers Rodney Crowell and Rosanne Cash may be about as close as you get to country and western porn. Great song from a once-great couple ... and the video? Perhaps a little foreshadowing of Rosie's big city aspirations?

Got tickets to see Rosanne at St. Ann's Warehouse next month. CANNOT wait. (Saw her there in 2006 and loved it, despite the ventilation problems.) This time around she will be promoting her upcoming album, "The List," made up of must-known country songs her legendary father wrote down for her when she was starting out and featuring duets with Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright.
