Mistrial in Murder Case Against Cop Who Executed Walter Scott

My friend John wrote on Facebook that if you read "To Kill a Mockingbird" in school, you probably thought it was unfair when Tom Robinson was wrongly accused of rape and later killed after trying to escape jail when a jury convicted him anyway. Well, in the nonfictional case of Walter Scott's murder, an African-American man was executed and the murder was filmed. And a jury still wouldn't convict a white police officer who executed him and then lied about Scott having a gun in his possession. People keep telling us to soldier on -- and have the audacity to tell blacks they need to "wait for the system." But having already seen this exact same thing happen with Rodney King while I lived in Los Angeles -- a quarter century ago -- I'm more convinced than ever that there truly is no hope. If "all lives" truly matter, people, then why doesn't Walter Scott's?

White Man's 'Burden'

Life Expectancy for White Americans Declines

African-American men gained 0.4 year of life expectancy in 2014, to 72.2 years

You can always count on the knuckle-draggers to be the first to comment on stories about, well, just about anything, Time to relinguish the burden, white fellas ...
Charles Bede

Basically, White people have created, driven, carried civilization from the beginning until now. The other groups have been been carried along, with varying degrees of success. Cumulatively, White people have become fatigued, are tired of this historic burden. Reduced longevity is the obvious outcome. The only viable long term solution is for White people to relinguish the burden to others, withdraw and support their own, apart from existing mongrelized society. Other groups will be left to do the same, will be on their own. Historically, this is the only system that has/can work.

Yellow Journalism

Court documents -- and my eyes -- indicate Holtzclaw is Asian or Pacific Islander

Daniel Holtzclaw -- the former Oklahoma City police officer found guilty of 18 counts of rape and sexual assaults against black women -- deserves to rot in prison. There is no room for this kind of abuse of power in this country, and that he preyed on people who were likely to not be believed (most of them either had criminal backgrounds or were in possession of drugs) makes it all the more grotesque. But does Shaun King have to turn this into a black vs. white issue, when the cop IS NOT WHITE?!!!! The issue is abuse of power by the police, which we sadly know all too well. Shame on King -- and the Daily News -- for publishing factually incorrect information. There are enough problems with the way some white cops treat African Americans, do we really need to be making shit up?

UPDATE: Commenters have informed me that supposedly it was the perpetrator who kept bringing up his "whiteness" to the victims -- he has a white father and Japanese mother -- to which I say: Shame on the Daily News and Shaun King for not writing an article that makes any sense to someone who is relying on you to be able to explain what happened. Other news agencies didn't mention this detail, either, but they also didn't identify the guy as white. I didn't realize I was required to do research in order for a piece to make any sense whatsoever. It would have required one extra
line and perhaps shed some light on the sicko's own racial hangups.

Song of the Day: 'Black or White' by Michael Jackson

Not a favorite of mine, although I remember seeing it premiere on a big screen at Newport Station in Costa Mesa, whose Thursday gay night was THE place to go (in Orange County!) back then. I post it today because I read that Rachel Dolezal got a standing ovation after finally admitting she's white yesterday on "The Real." (Hooray for mental illness!)

Cowboys and Pretendians

Groups are accusing the new hire of misrepresenting her heritage

I have no idea if Susan Taffe Reed is of Native descent or not, but I do know that braid and feathers -- along with her saying "I have participated in Native American ceremonies and powwow dancing since I was a little girl" -- aren't helping her case.

Is this whole racial misrepresentation phenomenon something new, or were we just not hearing about it as much pre-Internet?

Me So Phony

First Rachel Dolezal pretended to be black. Then Shaun King gave one of the vaguest answers ever to questions about his ethnic background. (His mother told him all about the affair she had with a black man who fathered him/He would never ask his mom personal questions. EVERYBODY talked about who his father was when he was growing up/Until this week, in 35 years NO ONE has ever asked who his father was. HUH?) Now this loser, Michael Derrick Hudson, posed as a Chinese man to get a poem he'd written published in the 2015 edition of Best American Poetry. And to top it off, he used a woman's name -- Yi-Fen Chou, which actually means "a piece of stink." What is wrong with people? Are some whites really so convinced the system is rigged in favor of minorities, just because a small fraction of them earn some kind of recognition? Read HERE.

Judge Throws Book at Trigger-Happy Homeowner

The Dearborn Heights, Mich., man who shot and killed 19-year-old Renisha McBride was sentenced to 17 to 30 years yesterday. Based on everything I'd heard about the case, this sounded about right. And after reading Boy Culture's recap of the case, I was ready to move on feeling some justice had been served.. But then I read the account of the tragic incident in -- of all places -- The New York Times, and suddenly I had considerably more sympathy for him:

I had heard she merely knocked on his door seeking help after her car broke down one night. In fact, The Times reports that she pounded on his front door, then went around and started pounding on the side door -- at 4:30 in the morning -- after smashing into a parked car. I agree 100 percent with the judge that making bad decisions does not mean you deserve to die. But witnesses at the scene described her as being "disoriented," refusing to stay at the scene, and refusing an ambulance despite being bloodied after smashing into another car, which has me wondering how bizarre and/or exaggerated her movements might have been on his porch and on the side of his house. (Read: scary to someone indoors who has no idea what is going on.)

To his state of mind, his car had recently been vandalized with a paint-ball gun.

The moral of this story remains the same: Don't go around SHOOTING PEOPLE. He should have merely called the police if he was frightened.

Still, I would sure like it if he could get 15 and George Zimmerman could get 15 instead of how things worked out. George Zimmerman created the situation with Trayvon Martin. This guy grossly mishandled a situation that was thrust upon him in the dead of night while he was sleeping. While I know for a fact I wouldn't have fired a gun through my screen door -- which I know is the point -- I'm not entirely sure how I would react in that situation either. So for that reason alone I have some sympathy.

President Obama: 'Trayvon Martin Could Have Been Me 35 Years Ago' (UPDATE)

In Wake of Zimmerman Verdict, Obama Makes Extensive Statement on Race in America

Good for him for speaking out, giving such a thoughtful and contextualized assessment of the whole thing -- making sure to address problems of "poverty and dysfunction" in black communities and acknowledging that young African American men are disproportionately "both the victims and perpetrators of violence" -- while urging respect for the legal system.. (I'm sure this will calm things down!) Read HERE.

UPDATE: And the accolades have begun over on Breitbart.com!

"This idiot of a president just started a freaking race war."

"WTF?!! is this guy trying to start a race war or something????"

"Obama's continual push for race riots is now being kicked into overdrive."

"He isn't going to be happy until we have a full-blown race war."

"Aw what'sa matter, Obama? You didn't get all the mobs and deaths you wanted out of this verdict? Not enough looting and plundering and blood for you?"

"Fueling a race riot. Isn't this like yelling fire in a movie theatre?"

"Obama is the Race-Riot Arsonist!"

"What about the thousands of whites killed by black mob violence?"

"Coming from a half white man... Barry, STFU."

"Sadly I can't recall any mixed race person identifying themselves as white. It must be because they were raised that way as a way of getting preferential treatment due to the old affirmative action stuff."

"Last time I checked a SKUNK is half white & half black.."

"This guy is unbelievable, he just stoked the flames of racism, he's by far the most racist President in the history of our country,"

"He wants race riots and gun violence so he can champion more laws that restrict law abiding citizens."

"So the Divider in Chief injects race into the Zimmerman case when it had nothing to do with it. He is really a disgusting hack."

"What a racist, incendiary D-bag!!!! This PoS admin can not stop fanning the flames and creating a racial divide!"

"When will he get over his color and realize he is in the White House instead of the Hood."

"This country is getting more divided by the day thanks to BO. All I see now are blacks running rampant looking for an excuse to loot and terrorize."

"True. All I have seen are blacks running around stealing, looting, rioting and beating up people because of the color of their skin."

"Unbelievable. This is sickening. I wish he'd go back to the gay bath house he came from. Marxist racist, white hater, mooslim, American hater, activist. Useless scrap of flesh this man is."

Reynolds Rap

You may think racism is fairly easy to smell when your Aunt Bernadette mysteriously doesn't like the president because he's "different" from her. But it's not so cut and dried when an Obama-campaigning lefty-liberal from Massachusetts has to confront his own prejudices after getting assaulted by a black man while jogging in his Brooklyn neighborhood. Read my friend David Reynolds' thought-provoking essay HERE.

The Stupid Card

I thought the first episode of FX's race-swapping reality show "Black.White." was hard to watch. Episode 2 was even worse. But it did change my opinion of the whole thing. For me, this experiment no longer seems to be about race at all. It's about something far more rudimentary: intelligence and ignorance. Get ready to toss your politically (in)correct darts at me, but from what I've seen -- and as casting would have it -- the white family appears to reasonably intelligent and open-minded and the black family seems to be more than a tad bit ignorant and completely unwilling to fully take part in the project. (Back off: It could have just as easily been the other way around and wouldn't we whities have preferred it that way?) I'd love to hear from people who think I've got this backwards but this conclusion seems to be the only thing black and white here.

When things reached a tense standstill last night, Rose (the white daughter) said that the situation had become a "microcosm" of real life. How I don't want to believe this -- and I don't.

Roll the tape:

  • When Carmen is made to "talk black" by a dialect coach (that's what they were all calling it, not Carmen's words, and Rene calls it "talking black" and "talking white" too) Carmen had to read off a list of words and one of them was "bitch." She was to use it in a sentence with her "black voice" so she says something playful like, "Hey, what's up, bitch?" That nearly ends it for Rene. She's soooo offended by this. How dare Carmen "call her out" like that! (What????)
  • Brian thinks Bruno is a racist because he asks other white people if they think negatively of blacks. (Deliberately starting a charged dialogue about race -- the very point of this entire project -- proves to Brian that Bruno must have these thoughts in his head at all times or else he wouldn't be able to think of them so quickly.) (Huh?) Brian can't believe how "forward" Bruno is about asking people questions, either. (OK, he is.) Ten seconds later, though, Rene is in the "white" bar and asks a perfect stranger 50 personal questions about his feelings on race issues and Brian has no problem with this -- and then applauds her for finding out the truth about the white people. (What????)
  • Rene takes Carmen shopping for an outfit for church and when Carmen sees a dashiki that she likes, Rene encourages her to buy one for her and one for Bruno. The minute they get home Rene finds that hubby Brian doesn't approve ("Why don't they just dress like Aunt Jemima on the syrup bottle? He can dress like Uncle Ben") so Rene immediately flip-flops and starts mocking Carmen and Bruno behind their back (what???). (Oh, and unlike Rose, son Nick follows his parents' lead on everything and has no opinion of his own. The future looks bleak for this kid if he doesn't get out of that house soon.) Brian sums up the wardrobe pick this way: "If that's their impression of blacks, then that's, that's garbage." (They're trying to experience something new and your wife encouraged them to do this!)
  • When Bruno and Carmen enjoy their experience at the black church they attend and join the singing and dancing, Brian and Rene sit there with a sour/disapproving look the whole time. Later, Brian mocks them and says "I do think they went overboard" (what???).
  • Rene cannot believe that Carmen would compliment one of the young women from the poetry group by calling the girl a "beautiful black creature." ("Carmen always has to go there -- has to get one last insult in.") Rene is so fucking ignorant she doesn't realize that "creature" doesn't mean you're calling someone an animal ("Thank you, George Barris, for letting us see this beautiful creature as, for so short a time, she was." -- This is a review of a book about Marilyn FUCKING Monroe you moron!). So because Rene's vocabulary is weak that makes Carmen a racist? (What???)

This went on nonstop for an hour. There wasn't a single thing that Carmen and Bruno said or did that Rene and Brian didn't have a problem with. Carmen and Bruno are far from perfect, but they're there trying to learn something and for that they should be commended. Meantime, the Sparkses appear to be making no effort to experience walking in Carmen and Bruno's shoes (try being white in a restaurant or store or anywhere, Brian: it doesn't guarantee good service -- trust me). The Sparkses are so certain that it's a bigger leap to go from white to black than from black to white ("we have to assimilate everyday") that it seems like they don't even want to participate in the project beyond belittling the other family. (Why are you even on this show?) And then when Carmen and Bruno don't experience what Brian and Rene are expecting them to, then they're not "doing it right."

I really don't want to believe that this is a true representation of the state of racial affairs. I have never seen anything like this in real life. Could my having lived my entire adult life in cosmopolitan areas surrounded by overachieving types of all backgrounds be coloring my judgment? Absolutely. But I'm convinced if you were to put me and Michael -- both of reasonable intelligence -- into a house with two unintelligent people of any race, you'd have many of the same problems -- namely a huge communication gap.

  • I'm renaming this show with a more accurate title: "Reasonably Intelligent. Partially Retarded."
