Tennis Tuesday

Did I say I have a thing for "musclebound cat dads"? I think I could have just said musclebound. More BELOW.

80 Candles

Impossible to even imagine that Debbie Harry, who has been my No. 1 for as long as I can remember, becomes an octogenarian today. How lucky are we?

Lisa Robinson recently caught up with the Blondie goddess for a wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair, in which she discusses the new Blondie album (due this fall), a new documentary and a biopic about her and the band:
They’re in the works, but I don’t know how a life can be summarized or given a caption. I suppose there’ll be something that’s off the wall but will somehow work. I’m happy to be doing it -- it’s helping me to collect my thoughts. I ran into a wall: the tour ended, Clem died, and wow. What is this space I live in now? I’m curing -- I’m doing a cure. And part of that is de-cluttering up my space, which is crowded with that life. I need to get some breath, get some air in there. And I want to feel that little spark of creativity, surprise -- those things. There’s a little tingle of that, and I hope that will be there for me.

Remains of the Day (06/30)

Hot Cat of the Day: OK, sue me for the repeat. I'm a sucker for a musclebound cat dad.

Louis Bayard: The advance press for Mariska Hargitay's documentary, "My Mom Jayne," doesn't really convey how smart and complicated and ultimately moving it is. Hargitay acknowledges she spent most of her life escaping her mother's example and, when you see the slightly terrified look Jayne Mansfield keeps casting at the camera, you get why. The film's hero turns out to be the late Mickey Hargitay, who made a haven for some kids who desperately needed one.

Weekend Tennis Roundup

Titles for Fritz, Griekspoor, Pegula and Joint. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Love and Pride

Just home from a day (and night) of festivities that included old friends, new friends and even a cousin (and his daughter) from out of town. We can’t control much in this world, so do everything you can to find joy where you can. xo

G Lounge Reopens in Chelsea

Some nine years after closing its doors following 20 years in Chelsea, G Lounge has reopened in its 19th Street home -- a space that has since been occupied by Rebar. Although the name and arched exterior doors are back, the interior still resembles its successor -- dark walls, a bar up front and go-go boys (the best addition). Damian and I had dinner around the corner last night at Elmo -- with a friend I hadn't seen since 1989(!) -- and then got a drink at G 2.0 and we give it two thumbs up, assuming you're OK with a $10 cover (maybe for Pride?) and mostly shitty music.

Although never my favorite hangout, G is definitely where I spent the most time in my lengthy gay career, followed by Preston's, Rage and JR's. Now if they could just get hunky Marcello back behind the bar serving up Amstel Lights, maybe my friend Jay and I would give it another go!

P.S.

Happy to see our old brunch spot, the Copper Still, is still alive and well, given how ratty most of the erstwhile gayborhood is looking these days.

Happy Pride, everyone!
