Public "Service" Announcement
State Rep. Bob Allen of Florida -- who, naturally, is a married-with-child member of the Republican Party who has co-sponsored bills increasing penalties for public lewdness and solicitation of sex -- gets busted for offering to blow an undercover cop for 20 bucks(!) in a park restroom and what's the best the his lawyer can come up with? "We would hope that everyone takes into consideration Mr. Allen's history of public service." Um, isn't that what got him in this mess in the first place? The Miami Herald quotes Allen -- as he was escorted out of the Titusville Police Department and taken to the Brevard County Jail -- as saying it was a "very big misunderstanding" and a "gross mistake." "I'm not in any way associated with that they are saying, this is disgusting." (The Valencia Community College alum neglects to mention that water sports are listed on his Web site as his favorite recreational activity.)
Not for nothing, but I just knew the Defense of Marriage Act wasn't strong enough to stop this kind of thing. Sen. David Vitter was right -- we need a constitutional amendment to maintain the sanctity of marriage -- and we need it now!!!
