Debbie Harry more than did this one justice when she hosted and served as musical guest of "Saturday Night Live" back in '81, but there's still nothing better than Teddy Pendergrass' 1980 classic.

Turn Off the Lights

Sad news out of Philadelphia: Teddy Pendergrass, whose deep voice and steamy love songs made him a sex symbol and R&B superstar in the '70s and early '80s, has died at 59. The former gospel singer, who spent the last 28 years of his life in a wheelchair after a car crash left him paralyzed from the waist down (you gotta love a guy who goes to a 76ers game in the early '80s with a transsexual nightclub performer!), had been battling colon cancer in recent months. Despite the tragedy in his life, his music will live on forever, with songs like "Life Is a Song Worth Singing," "Close the Door," "Come Go With Me," "Turn Off the Lights" and, of course, "Love TKO." RIP, Teddy. And thanks for the memories.
This one's for Tenika Watson, wherever you are.
