They'll Take New York

New York magazine’s Hurricane Sandy cover won the American Society of Magazine Editors' cover-of-the-year award.

ASME's citation reads:

Shot on the Wednesday evening after Hurricane Sandy hit, Iwan Baan's photograph of Manhattan, half aglow and half dark, captured the larger story of a powerful city rendered powerless. A true viral phenomenon, the image became an instant icon of the event -- [and a] magazine cover that many New Yorkers have saved for posterity. In fact, a poster version was offered for sale by the Museum of Modern Art.

Song of the Day: 'Lonesome River' by Rosanne Cash

The great Rosanne Cash debuted her cover of the bluegrass song “Lonesome River” yesterday on TIME.com.  It's part of a Hurricane Sandy benefit LP called "The Storm Is Passing Over," billed as an indie-folk album of “16 classic American storm songs.” In exchange for a donation, you can download the collection HERE.
