Weekend Tennis Roundup

Arthur Fils and Coco Gauff won the big one in Cincinnati. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

His-toric

Arthur Fils captured the biggest title of his career, defeating Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 to win the Cincinnati Open and his first ATP Masters 1000 crown. The 22-year-old became the first Frenchman to win a Masters 1000 title since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2014 and will rise to a career-high No. 11 in the rankings. The match was also a milestone for the sport, marking the first ATP Masters 1000 final between two black players.

Coco Gauff cruised past fellow American Jessica Pegula 6-2, 6-4 to capture her second Cincinnati Open crown, becoming just the third woman after Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka to win the title twice. The last time Gauff won at Cincinnati, she went on to win the US Open for her first Grand Slam title.

Brazilians Orlando Luz and Rafael Matos defeated Constantin Frantzen and Robin Haase 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 to win the Cincinnati Open, becoming just the fifth men’s doubles team in the Open Era to sweep the Canada-Cincinnati Masters double in the same season.

BTW: In addition to going to the U.S. Open all day on Sept 1, Damian and I decided to splurge and celebrate our anniversary this year by going to the quirky mixed doubles event on Wednesday evening. Say hi if you're there, too!
