Song of the Day: 'Like a River' by Carly Simon

Immediately thought of this one when my childhood neighbor informed me that she hadn't heard from her mother back in Phoenix in months (Mom's health is rapidly deteriorating and there's a messy stepfather situation) or her dad in a year a half.
"Those parts of my life are over," she wrote, in what felt like a kick in my stomach having known them as the picturesque family who lived behind us in the picturesque master-planned community of Dobson Ranch.
I've never been able to listen to this song without a box of tissues at the ready. But my friend's words reminded me that sometimes we say goodbye when someone dies, and sometimes before.

P.S. Only saw the clip for the first time yesterday. I'm glad I have my own associations of the song without the images it provides -- although I must say this hit me just as hard!

Hear! Hear!

"I bought his ephemera I think because it troubled me to think that it would evaporate if I didn't. Maybe the fact that so many (no longer all) gay people are childless, making our keepsakes one heartbeat away from being worthless trash, also fuels my desire to keep as many things as possible."

I've got a bunch of stills from Eric Decker's latest video that makes its wood-chopping predecessor look like a Bible study class. But you probably just need to watch it BELOW.
