Tennis Tuesday

Confession: I have a very low tolerance for animation. As a kid, I loved Saturday-morning cartoons as much as the next girl, so long as they were essentially animated versions of "The Honeymooners." But while other people segued into adulthood with a steady diet of "The Simpsons," "Ren & Stimpy," "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist," "South Park," "The Critic," "SpongeBob SquarePants," "King of the Hill," "Family Guy," "The Cleveland Show," "Bob's Burgers," "Futurama" and so on, the only show I ever appreciated as a young adult was "Beavis and Butt-head," -- mainly because it felt like it was based on my friendship with Greg Jelinek -- even if my brothers swore up and down that "Simpsons," "Dr. Katz" and "Family Guy" were the best things ever. (I've watched and appreciated them on occasion, but never felt the need to commit.) And don't even get me started on major motion pictures. (I've never seen a Disney film of the past 30 years let alone one of those ugly Pixar deals.)

Cut to the Pandemic of 2020. Through some fluke of station-flipping, Damian and I stumbled upon an episode of "American Dad!' and, as they say, the rest is history. Combining everything we love -- a hunky leading man (named after a tennis great!), a bitchy pansexual alien (who says things that make even me blush), sexy gay neighbors who work in media,  and the relentless skewering of the GOP -- we went from dreading that there were already 17 seasons in the can to worrying that we'll quickly run out. Surely there are other gay fans out there.

Stan's Back

I grew up in a racket club yet never owned a pair of Adidas' iconic Stan Smith sneakers. (I wore Converse like my idol ... Chris Evert.) They're coming back in 2014 -- expect to see me in 'em!
