First Tuesday in November

I must say I haven’t seen this much hope and excitement from my party since Bill de Blasio ran for New York City mayor in 2013!

Song of the Day: 'Put a Little Love in Your Heart' by Jackie DeShannon

My friend just said he's "nauseously optimistic" -- and I've gone from wondering how I had never heard that one before to knowing exactly why it didn't come up until this exact moment.

Election Day

Well, it's finally here. I hope everyone is doing OK. And whatever you do, please try not to be like the 80 million Americans who sat out in 2020.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton writes:
Here’s one of the most impactful things you can do in this election:

Take a moment, right now, to text or call three friends and ask a simple question: “What’s your plan to vote?”

Countdown to a Cure?

Well, this is finally happening. I'm an Election Day kind of guy, but I know a lot of people like to vote early. Have you?

P.S.

The U.S. presidency is going to be awarded to the person who wins razor-thin margins in a quirky combination of states rather than the candidate who GETS THE MOST VOTES from the American people. How can the world's leading democracy carry on like this? I’m convinced that if the system were changed, the Republican Party would push the extremists currently running it knowing they would need to be more appealing to the masses. (As hard as it is to believe sometimes, Democratic policies are far more popular.) And as a result, none of us would have to feel like Election Day is a life-or-death situation. Yes, we would still strongly prefer our chosen candidate. But the structure of government would remain intact either way. While this is an incredibly sad and low bar, it’s something we currently are without.

And you know what might increase voter turnout? Instead of using a system created to accommodate slave-holding states, make each person's vote count equally. People in blue California and red Alabama get complacent thinking "my vote doesn't count." Get rid of the Electoral College and suddenly they all would.

Page 1 Roundup (11/08)

Speak for yourselves, conservatives. I've been waiting to vote for this woman since 2008. No wonder your own candidate got booed when he cast his ballot.

She will be your mother figure ...
