Activist: ‘A Star Is Born’ Star Shames Dead Gay Men, Women, and Minorities

I just received this email and thought you should know about the queer and present danger the latest remake of "A Star Is Born" poses ...

Dear Editor:

In this era of social justice and #MeToo, we have to be as vigilant as possible in calling out offenders. Earlier this week, it was revealed that Jon Peters, the producer of the upcoming film A Star is Born, spent years sexually harassing women. Warner Brothers tried to minimize his involvement, but – according to many sources – they are lying through their teeth to do PR damage.
Even if Jon Peters wasn’t involved on the film in a completely hands-on way, Andrew Dice Clay was. He plays a major role in the film as Lady Gaga’s character’s dad. If you are old enough to remember, Andrew Dice Clay was notorious for using his comedy shows to bash women, the LGBT community, immigrants, African-Americans, and everyone else. Here are some of his most famous clips:
It is abhorrent that he is being awarded with a role in a major film that already is problematic. We cannot be silent about this just because A Star is Born is being distributed by a major studio and people want it to do well. Responsible journalists, especially those in the LGBT community, need to expose this and inspire a call to action. Please let me know if you have any questions or need more details.

Sincerely,
Frank Washington

Magazine Rack

Here's what you're missing by not subscribing to magazines anymore:

‘Hollywood can’t imagine you doing it until you do it. And once they see it, it can’t be unseen by them. And that's exactly what happened to me.'

'Playing Venom is like acting out a mental illness, of which I have a fair bit of understanding.'

Sweaty Bradley Cooper Roams Manhattan

Anyone know which gym Bradley Cooper works out in? I missed stalking him on the subway and want to fix the error of my ways. From HERE.

What the F?

I'm not sure I'd be this calm if I saw Bradley Cooper on the F train -- although I'd prefer he did it with no pants on like Chris Evans did HERE.

Out of Print

Read HERE.

I canceled my subscriptions to Details and GQ this week, after subscribing since the 1980s. As someone who works in print media, it pains me to admit this, but hear me out. Both mags allowed me to access the iPad edition with my print subscription, so the hard copies just started to pile up around my (tiny) apartment, almost always unopened. (And to be honest, there's a backlog of issues I haven't downloaded either, but at least that's not taking up space.) Where I fault Conde Nast here, though, is that the customer service website offered no option to convert my print deal to an iPad-only subscription. In fact, it seemed Conde Nast was so preoccupied with trying to make it impossible to cancel at all that the option never occurred to them. Instead, once I jumped through three or four hurdles, the only option it gave me was to MAIL ME REFUNDS for my already paid subscriptions, something I didn't even want. (There's really no way to cancel it AFTER it runs out????) Perhaps when the checks clear I will see about buying a subscription via iTunes. I'm guessing Conde loses 50 percent of the revenue by doing it this way, but that's what they get for refusing to give the customer what he wants.

Bradley Cooper Covers Vanity Fair

He's really a dreamboat, but at least I can use his 10 years of sobriety to rationalize how it would never work out between us. Read HERE.

The Bradley Cooper Freak Show

Bradley Cooper take on "The Elephant Man" sure is a lot better looking than John Hurt's.

Beefy Cooper

Bradley Cooper has reportedly packed on 40 pounds to play the late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle in "American Sniper." While he may be uncognizable, I think I like him better than I did before!

To see what the guy he's playing looked like, click HERE.

Bradley Cooper Does GQ

I think the cover photo is a little too close up even for him, but there's no denying he's adorable! Read HERE.

Cooper Union

The "news" is that Bradley Cooper, 38, is dating a 20-year-old. (Yawn.) But it's his cool T-shirt that caught my eye. Where can I get one?

Get a Room

Was having a hrad time blogging from Detroit thanks to the incredibly awful Blogger for iPad app, but I'd be remiss for not posting something about this spectacle from Sunday's men's final at Wimbledon. The photos of Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler were sent in by a regular reader and tipster, but it was the subject that said it all:

Bradley Cooper Covers DETAILS

I loved "Silver Linings Playbook." But with "The Hangover 3" on the horizon, I'm fearful another good Bradley Cooper may be many years away.  (I wasn't going to, but should I give "The Place Beyond the Pines" a shot?) Read his Details cover story HERE.

Not sure if I want to see "The Place Beyond the Pines" or not, but I sure wish I'd been lurking around the Landmark Sunchine Cinema Thursday night ...

'Silver' Is Gold

Michael and I saw "Silver Linings Playbook" yesterday and about all I can say is wow! Very rare that I'm not a little disappointed in a highly hyped film, but David O. Russell's adaptation of Matthew Quick's 2008 novel was nearly perfect from beginning to end. From its brilliant casting -- it would be hard to imagine Bradley Cooper not going head-to-head with Daniel Day-Lewis on Oscar night, Jennifer Lawrence was a revelation, Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver are outstanding as Cooper's working-class parents (Weaver looks like a REAL mom!), and Julia Stiles showed she may have a second career as a character actress! -- to the painstakingly realistic script (which didn't feature a single moment where I paused and said THAT would never happen, or why did they have to do THAT), "Silver Linings Playbook" is a brilliant film -- and just in time for Bradley Cooper, who was on the brink of losing his chance at being an A-list actor after a string of duds since "The Hangover" made him him the "next big thing." Anyone else catch it? Think it's opening in more cities soon -- highly recommend this one.

Bradley Cooper Covers M Magazine

Bradley Cooper covers the debut issue of M, a "new" quarterly magazine from Conde Nast's Fairchild division. (I once freelanced at their Footwear News title!) Other highlights include interviews with Karl Lagerfeld, Marco Rubio, Scott Sternberg, Chris Hughes, Sean O'Pry, Jeremy Zimmer, Brett Yormack and more. Media Ink notes that this is actually a relaunch of sorts as M last appeared as a magazine in 1992, but folded in the wake of the early ’90s recession. M is on newsstands now.

Thanks, Toronto Film Festival. Ryan Reynolds would have been there as well but he was too busy marrying every woman he meets.
