Sad to say I think it is a trend we are seeing in news right now. I grew up in Western Michigan, Suzanne Geha was a news anchor for over 30 years on WOOD-TV 8. (You might know who she is as did a 3 year stint at WXYZ in Detroit, late 70's early 80's).
Anyway, she was the first women to anchor in the Western Michigan Market, and after 30+ years, she was let go. Even sadder it she was on the air one day and the next morning she was gone, no chance to say good bye on the air, no look back at here career. In fact the first public announcement came from herself on a her Facebook page, not even from the station. And just for a fun fact, Suzanne is the niece of long time White House reporter Helen Thomas.
Remember when Sue Simmons was caught cursing when she thought her mike was off, a few years back? That was classic. Possibly my fondest memory of the dear Sue. I'm not sure that I could tell any of the other newscasters apart - they all have long straight hair, blindingly white teeth, and the same vacuous look in their Lasik-corrected eyes.
