So Close: Andy Roddick was one serve from finally ending his losing streak against Roger Federer -- yet somehow he wasn't close enough. Three blown match points later and King Roger walked away with a 4-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4 win in the Masters Cup in Shanghai. "It's just frustrating," Roddick said. "I was real close. I think that makes it a little bit harder, knowing you're one of your best shots away -- one serve away." It's progress, Andy. (AP)
It's De Cock's Fault: Don't you hate it when you're the World Health Organization’s chief official on HIV/AIDS and your name is Dr. De Cock. (NYT)
Gay Brigade: Twelve gay and lesbian veterans appealed a federal judge’s decision to throw out a lawsuit challenging the military’s "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy. The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network filed the plaintiffs’ appeal Monday in the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston, arguing the policy denies gays’ constitutional rights to privacy, free speech and equal protection. I remember when Dems came down on President Clinton at the beginning of his first term for compromising to allow this policy to become law. At the time I agreed it was better than sticking with the status quo (witch hunts and immediate dishonorable discharges for gays and lesbians) but it's certainly time to revisit this discriminatory policy once and for all. Gay Marriage in South Africa: Parliament on Tuesday voted resoundingly to legalize same-sex marriages in South Africa, making the nation the first in Africa and the fifth in the world to remove legal barriers to them, according to advocates. I don't know much about South Africa but this hardly seems predictable from a country that only recently gave blacks equal rights. Wake up, America. (NYT)
Don't Flaunt It: I've heard of someone not being able to get laid in a whorehouse, but this is ridiculous: A gay pub in Greenwich, England, has been accused of being "unprincipled" and "disingenuous" after a customer was told to stop kissing his boyfriend because it is "inappropriate." Of course, they didn't say what the boyfriend looked like. (PinkNews)
I love that Christine Taylor looks more like Marcia Brady in my mind than Maureen McCormick ever did -- kind of like when Cher guest-starred...
