Devil's Advocate: The Human Rights Campaign marked a first in its history this month when it opened a campaign office in Concord, N.H. -- a central hub for presidential candidates on the campaign trail. But to hear gay activist Larry Kramer tell it, the HRC would be better closing up shop all together. He stated that despite the lobbying organization's longstanding place on the Hill, gays and lesbians still have virtually no rights, no meaningful representation and no power, and sadly I have to say I completely agree. LGBT Workers' Rights: A meeting of two international trade union federations, representing more than 50 million workers in 950 unions around the world, has been told that they must work harder to tackle homophobia – or risk failure in other campaigns and objectives too. The call to action came at the second international LGBT forum, held jointly by Public Services International and Education International. The forum, in Vienna, is the only event of its kind to be facilitated by global trade union federations. (365Gay)

Will & Grace-less: The number of gay characters depicted on TV is falling on network series but rising on cable, a study by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation found. In the 2007-08 TV season, broadcast series will feature seven regularly seen characters who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, down from nine characters in 2006 and 10 the season before, GLAAD said. Most are on one network --ABC. The new figure represents 1.1 percent of all regular characters on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW, compared to 1.3 percent in 2006, according to the study to be released Monday. A total of 87 comedies and dramas with 650 characters were analyzed. (AP)

Inside-Out Foreplay

While it's no secret that America's tennis sweetheart Chris Evert is an ice princess on and off the court -- wasn't it Dick Enberg who once said of her male suitors, "The line is long, but it moves quickly"? -- it was still kind of startling to hear what Greg Norman's ex-wife had to say about Chrissie's shameless homewrecking ways. Laura says: Chris "came after him -- I have never seen anything like it." Greg was best pals with Chris' husband at the time, Andy Mill, and Laura suspects the affair began on a vacation they all went on along with Matt Lauer (mmm, wasn't he having marital problems a few years ago?). Laura went on: "It just turned into a fiasco. I really don't have a lot of respect for her as a woman -- she is not a great person. I never would have thought anyone would be so aggressive in pursuing him in front of me, like I didn't exist." When The Shark was asked if has plans to marry Evert, he responded: "Sure. Why not?" The Elements of Style

GQ's 50th anniversary issue celebrates the 50 most stylish men of the past 50 years. The huge, ad-filled mag has been published with 10 different men on the cover -- including (212) heroes John F. Kennedy, Robert Redford and Muhammad Ali -- but I have to say receiving the version with Paul Newman up front was more than OK with me. Was there ever a more beautiful man than Mr. Blue Eyes himself? Tom Brady made the cover, but also made the magazine's Legacy Project list, which speculates about whom we'll still be talking about 50 years from now. (No argument here.)
The complete list is thoughtful and provocative, and with the likes of David Bowie, Bjorn Borg, Steve McQueen, George Clooney, Bryan Ferry and Jack Kerouac on it, it's definitely worth a look.
