Last night, with the snowstorm imminent, Damian and I decided to race over to the cinema to see “Pillion,” which had been sold out every other time we’d tried. As you can see, the walk back was glorious -- as was the morning after.
As for the film ...
I enjoyed it enough and give the creators credit for exploring a little-visited topic. With that said, the subject matter is rather depressing to me -- and no matter how it’s presented, the idea of one person being treated as subhuman in a relationship is sad and dehumanizing. (Sorry, but abuse masquerading as a kink is still abuse.)
Truth be told, the film is really only entertaining because Alexander Skarsgaard is so hunky. If it were a typical “dom” (aka an average schlub), seeing him do the things he did to that kid would have been pretty intolerable. How anyone can describe it as “tender” is beyond me -- unless, say, you think a mugger handing a victim his glasses that flew off during an attack is tender.
For my money, the Jerri Blank-Laird version rang more true and was a lot more fun to watch!
