To be historically pedantic for just a quick minute: The Mason-Dixon line ran straight through St. Louis (where I live). Meaning, the bottom half of the state was slave, top half free.
This contributes to our forever-schizophrenic personality. Also explains why StL and KC always vote Dem. while the rest of the state is predominately GOP.
