Oh, joy. By the time I wake up tomorrow, Kim Clijsters will have advanced to the final of the tournament in Brisbane to play countrywomen and former rival-who-she-never-beats-when-it-really-counts Justine Henin. All I can say is THANK GOD for the Tennis Channel and reruns of the World Invitational Tennis Classic. Besides the obvious joy of seeing Chris Evert, Billie Jean King and Evonne Goolagong, it's great to relive the magic of Virginia Wade, Dianne Fromholtz, Margaret Court, Kerry Reid, Sue Barker and Rosie Casals in all their 1970s glory ...
Justine leads Kim 12-10 in the career H2H match-up...pretty close, actually. It's great to have them back in the mix to increase the depth in women's tennis. With the Belgians, Williams sisters, Sharapova, the Serbians and the Russians, let's be honest, the women's game is a lot more interesting now that the 70s. I mean, do you miss moonballs?
Love your blog Kenneth. Starting Monday, the Tennis Channel is showing past classic matches from the Australian Open. Than the Happy Slam is a week away. Go Nadal, Djokovic, Roddick, Tsonga, Soderling, Verdasco, DelPotro, Clisters, Bartoli, Dementiva.
Brent: You have to translate everything I say from Kenneth to Reality: what I mean is that after beating Justine in two early slams, Kim has lost every single important match -- including embarrassingly lopsided finals at the French and U.S. opens.
