Weekend Tennis Roundup

Titles for Djokovic, Tien and Rybakina. Full report plus all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.

Novak Djokovic captured his 101st career title in dramatic fashion on Saturday in Athens, where he overcame Lorenzo Musetti in a three-hour clash. The 38-year-old Serbian left it all on the court in an exhausting 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in the final, which featured 13 break points and five breaks of serve in the deciding set alone.

With his record-breaking 72nd tour-level titles on hard courts, Djokovic inched closer to passing Roger Federer for second place on the overall all-time most titles list, where Jimmy Connors stands on top at 109.

It was fitting that he would win at what is now his home event, having relocated to Greece amid political turmoil in Serbia. It's also the tournament his family owns, which they were forced to move as well.

The second they shook hands, however, I knew Nole was going to withdraw from the ATP Finals, which was a bit of a consolation prize for Musetti, who was next in line to get in!

Meanwhile, Learner Tien won his maiden ATP Tour title after a spectacular finish on Saturday at the Moselle Open in Metz, where he overcame Cameron Norrie 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(6).

It was a roller coaster, with Tien blowing a 4-1 lead in the final set before the hunky Brit blew a 5-1 lead in the tiebreak. Congrats to Tien who becomes the first American teen to win an ATP title since Andy Roddick in 2003.

Elena Rybakina won the biggest payday in women’s tennis history on Saturday. With her 6-3, 7-6(0) victory over world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the WTA Finals championship match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, No. 6 Rybakina will take home a record prize of $5,235,000 after going undefeated in the eight-woman event. It was a spectacular finish for a woman whose year has been filled with illness and drama. Afterward, she reportedly refused to pose for a photo with the WTA chief, whom she faults for banning her coach from the tour for a year.

Francisco Cabral and Lucas Miedler capped their 2025 season in style on Saturday in Athens, with a come-from-behind win over Santiago Gonzalez and David Pel 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 in the final. Cabral and Miedler partnered for the first time in April this year before lifting trophies in Gstaad, Hangzhou, and now Athens to close out the season on a high note.

And in Metz, my other husband Quentin Halys and Pierre-Hugues Herbert rose to the occasion in front of their home fans, upsetting third seeds Guido Andreozzi and Manuel Guinard 7-5, 6-3 in the championship match to capture their first team title in just their second tournament together.
