Was sad to read about the sudden passing of Sarah Dash, who gained world fame in the 1970s as a member of the groundbreaking R&B group Labelle. She was 76, and no cause of death was immediately known. Today's SOTD is a track Dash wrote for Labelle's debut album, one of only three that wasn't a cover. (Band member Nona Hendrix later became the Labelle's principal songwriter, making this one that much more noteworthy.) I had pleasure of seeing the "Lady Marmalade" trio reunite at the Out 100 in 2008 -- the same year they put out a critically acclaimed comeback album 32 years in the making -- and feel especially thankful for that moment today. RIP.
Patti LaBelle: “I am heartbroken, as I know all of her loved ones and fans are.”
