I totally get the sad fact that a gay male star in show business seeking lead or action roles still needs to be mum, but I do not get the bearding. This guy should follow the perfect Bomer route. Live your gay life openly and freely, don't beard, but do not talk about it. Conversely do not bad People magazine covers with your out story or your surrogate kids or generally bore peeps with your personal details. It's really no one's business. Do your job, live your live and don't feel the need to share it with the world. Straight stars like Damon, Beyonce etc. also follow this mum mold and it works for both gay and straight stars.
Have you read the biography on that guy (Hudson's publicist, I mean). It's very interesting, and more than a little sad. Amazing how many stars he created, even if the names (Chad Everett, Tab Hunter, Troy Donahue, Rory Calhoun, Guy Madison) were contrived, and the talent kind of thin.
It was called "The Man Who Invented Rock Hudson: The Pretty Boys and Dirty Deals of Henry Willson" and is worth a check-out at the library. Lots of early Hollywood trivia.

PATHETIC!!
Your line about Rock Hudson's publicist is pure genius!
