The Day the Music Died

It was 50 years ago today that 22-year-old Buddy Holly, 28-year-old J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) and 17-year-old Ritchie Valens died in an airplane crash near Mason City, Iowa. The tragedy, dubbed "the day the music died" by Madonna Don McLean, was would mark the beginning of a fascination with rockers who died young that continued with Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and continues today ... (Thanks, Douglas Richard!)
