Jannik Sinner and Elina Svitolina took home the pies in Rome. Full report plus my painful separation from Quentin Halys and all the ATP beef that's fit to post BELOW.
As feared, Jannik Sinner won the Italian Open on Sunday, defeating Norway's Casper Ruud 6-4, 6-4 in the final.
With this monumental victory at the Foro Italico, the 24-year-old world No. 1 achieved several historic milestones, most notably becoming only the second man in tennis history -- after Novak Djokovic -- to complete the Career Golden Masters by winning all nine active ATP Masters 1000 titles.
Elina Svitolina captured the women's crown by completing a stunning tournament run that featured consecutive victories over top-five stars Elena Rybakina, Iga Świątek, and Coco Gauff, whom she defeated 6–4, 6–7(3), 6–2 in the final. It was the Ukrainian's third time holding the trophy.
In a historic home triumph, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos 7-6(8), 6-7(3), [10-3] to win the men's doubles title, becoming the first all-Italian duo to win the tournament in the Open Era.
Vincitrici!
Around the net ...
I noticed I hadn't seen any posts lately from Quentin Halys on Instagram -- where I've noticed that he's occasionally looked at my stories -- despite his semifinal run in Bordeaux. Turns out my French husband, about whom I've expressed nothing but praise and affection, inexplicably BLOCKED ME, a la Chris Evert Lloyd Mill Norman
