Adrian Mannarino picked on an orphan. Daria Kasatkina continued her winning ways since coming out. And Liudmila Samsonova and Aliaksandra Sasnovich proved they are not the same person. This plus all the action in the runup to the U.S. Open BELOW.
Ready for takeoff?
Adrian Mannarino beat Laslo Djere 7-6 (1), 6-4 on Saturday to become the first Frenchman to win the Winston-Salem Open. Sadly, I wasn't in the area to comfort the Serbian cutie who lost his mother to cancer when he was 5 and his father (also to cancer) in 2018 and never should have lost to this menace to tennis.
New partner, similar success for Matthew Ebden and Jamie Murray.
Teaming for the first time this week in Winston-Salem, the pair claimed the title with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys on Saturday.
Ebden and Murray boast three Grand Slam titles between them, with Ebden victorious at Wimbledon this year with Max Purcell and Murray at the 2016 Australian Open and U.S. Open with Bruno Soares.
In the battle of the Darias: No.1 seed Daria Kasatkina worked her way to her second WTA singles title of the season at the inaugural Championnats Banque Nationale de Granby on Saturday, holding off No.9 seed Daria Saville 6-4, 6-4 in a hard-fought final.
Liudmila Samsonova scored her second title in a row and her 10th straight match win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No.7 seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in Saturday's final in Cleveland. Samsonova claimed her second career WTA singles title at the beginning of August on the hard courts of Washington, D.C., before picking up where she left off two weeks later in Ohio.
