At some point I need to make a Venn diagram (or would it be a reverse Venn diagram?) that shows how someone who loves female-fronted bands, blond rocker chicks and '90s alt rock never came across Sonic Youth in all my life. (It's not like I disliked them -- I just never came into any contact with any of their music.)
Although my '90s hubby has filled me in a bit -- he's a fan because even though Sonic Youth's recording career dates back to 1982, the '90s were the band's heyday -- seeing Kim Gordon and her adorable little furry friend in the video for "Kool Thing" on MTV Classic is my first real attempt at fandom!
Question: Is it worth trying to get into them now? (One friend says "No, no, no. It is sludge." But I am open to other opinions.) It might not surprise some of you to learn that the only thing I really ever heard about them was about 10 years ago when Gordon went through a messy divorce with bandmate Thurston Moore, who apparently ran off with his also-married book editor.
