8 1/2 Lives?

I'm sitting here with my kitty -- who (but for a few nibbles last Monday after a steroid shot) hasn't even in two weeks -- not knowing what to do. My vet thinks the end is near so I have an appointment for a 2nd opinion at a new vet this afternoon at 3 but part of me wants to jump in a cab right now (around midnight in the 212) and go to the 24-hour animal hospital on the Upper East Side, even though his condition is no better or worse (seemingly) than it was all week. The not-eating thing is undoubtedly very serious. But everyone says cats stop grooming when they're near death yet, as you can see, Troy is as fastidious as ever. My heart is broken and I'm so not sure what to do. How can people be parents of little human beings?

I have never heard of cats stopping grooming being a sign of illness.

When I lost my first cat, Snoopy, it was under different circumstances (a blood clot, then an aneurysm)... but from one cat lover to another, I would head off to the animal hospital. If only they could talk and tell us what's wrong it would be easier.

You'll both be in my thoughts tonight, I hope your kitty will get well quickly.

  2. Kenneth my heart goes out to you. Although I had a dog growing up I never wanted one of my own. That whole lack of commitment/responsibility thing. But 4 years ago my bro gave me a Golden then 6 months later I felt sorry for it being alone much of the time I got a Lab. Now they have ruined my back yard and wreaked havoc on my home but. . .I get nauseated when they don't act as a dog should. They had me at the first lick. Likewise, I could not handle the stress of being a parent so hang in there Kenneth. My thoughts are with you.
